Useful Advice
1. Have you considered de-cluttering. Well moving is a good time to do
this. Some three months before you move, de-clutter. Take it to the dump,
do a car boot sale or give it to a charity shop. It's easier to do this
before you move!
2. Book your removal company a good three months in advance.
3. A couple of months before you move, either get some cards printed
with your new change of address or start writing a series of change of
address letters.
4. Also take time to investigate which companies supply fuel to your new
home and what they charge.
5. As the time nears, start packing seasonal items, winter or summer
clothes, Christmas decorations, etc...
6. Start making an inventory of your belongings. Number each boxes and
have a checklist for each boxes. This will help you with any possible
insurance claim but more importantly for allocating destination rooms.
7. Decide on how you would like to transport pets, and start using up
food stuff that might spoil.
8. Now you need to start ringing all those friends up that promised to
help on moving day!
9. Start switching utilities, cancelling milk, send out moving letters,
settle bills, and check details with your removal company.
10. On the day of moving, make sure you have a box of essentials. A
first aid kit containing any regular medications, a few light bulbs,
toilets rolls, kettle for making everybody (and especially your removal
men!) tea. Go round and check you have emptied everything and then sit
back and watch it all happen knowing you are ready.
11. It is best if you also carry important documents, money and
jewellery yourself.
12. And finally you've arrived, as you settle in find out where your
doctor, dentists and vets are. Locate your nearest shops, hospital and
the police station.
